Sims 3 The Price-Bull Family (part 33)

Mercedes rushes into the house, anxious to see where her daughter has been living with her new husband.
She is impressed by the size.  “It could use a makeover, but it’s nice,” she says out loud.
Terrance is already eating when Mercedes and Lexus come to join him.  “Gorgeous house son,” Mercedes says after Terrance greets her.
“Thanks ma’am,” Terrance answers, too nervous to look Mercedes in the eye.

“Son, if we are going to get along, I’d better not hear you call me ma’am ever again!  I’m mom,” Mercedes says in her ‘I’m amused, but I’m not playing’ tone.
Lexus is relieved that her mother is being lighthearted and not confrontational.
Now that the air is cleared, Lexus chats comfortably with her mother.  Terrance stands to clear his plate.

“So what did you wear for your wedding?” Mercedes asks.
“I rented a dress at the chapel in city hall,” Lexus answers.  Mercedes practically chokes on her meal.

“What!  My daughter wore a rented dress!  I could have made you a one of A kind original,” Mercedes says once she’s able to successfully swallow.
“I know mom.  I knew you would feel that way.  I’m sorry.”
Mercedes takes another look around the spacious kitchen.  “That’s OK,” She says,  “You’ve done well for yourself.”
“I’m going to take a look around,” Mercedes says excusing herself for a self guided tour of the large home.
Lexus later hugs her mother and excuses herself.  She is exhausted and wants to get a full night’s rest for work tomorrow.  Mercedes is grateful for a moment alone with Terrance.
“I feel so bad that I rushed Lexus into this thing,” Terrance begins.

“I’m passed that Terrance,” Mercedes responds quickly.
Terrance ignores her response.  He has to get this out.  “I just want you to know that I love Lexus very much and I just wanted to protect her.”
He continues, “She refused to move in with me unless I was fully committed to her.”

Mercedes is happy to hear this, “I raised her well.”
“Terrance, she really couldn’t have married a better person and I have no doubt that she is in good hands with you.”
“Thanks ma’am,” Terrance says.  He sees the annoyed look on Mercedes face and rushes to fix his mistake,” I mean mom!”
“No problem…son.”
“I’ve got to go.  Love you both!” Mercedes says before turning to leave.

Sims 3 The Price-Bull Family (part 32)

Lexus wakes the next morning and for once, her mother is not on her mind.  She is scheduled to begin her first day of work today.
Lexus’ nerves are wrecked the entire drive to the hospital.  Her position is entry level, but it is the first step toward realizing her dream of becoming a surgeon.
She runs toward the doors of the hospital with one thought in mind, I feel sick!
Terrance has a day off and spends it studying recipes in his cookbook.
Lexus emerges from the hospital still feeling nauseous.  She thought it was just nerves, but the feeling has stuck with her all day.
Terrance takes one look at her when she gets home and knows that something is wrong.

“Are you ok?” He asks concerned.
Lexus doesn’t get to answer before her stomach contents start churning.  When she’s able to contain it, she answers, “I feel like throwing up!”
Lex, I think you’re pregnant,”  Terrance responds.  He knows the symptoms because his mother has had her fair share of pregnancies.
Lexus tries to laugh it off, “What?  That’s impossible. we only-” She begins.

“That’s all it takes,” Terrance interrupts.
“No, it’s not that.  I think I just ate something,” Lexus says denying the possibility.  It would be just her luck to have to break that news to her mother also. She joins Terrance on the couch to watch TV.
Suddenly her phone rings.  It’s Mercedes.  Lex, I wanted to stop by, but then I realized that I don’t know where my own daughter lives,” Mercedes says with frustration in her voice.

Lexus gives her the address.
Lexus hangs up the phone.  A big wave of nausea rises and Lexus makes it to the bathroom right on time.  “I am pregnant,” she admits to herself.
Lexus goes outside for some fresh air. Her mother is already outside when she gets out there.
“So why didn’t you tell me?”  Mercedes starts in, “You know I would have wanted to be there.  What…Are you pregnant?”
Lexus ignores the second question, “I didn’t tell you because I knew you would want me to do the rational thing, but there’s nothing rational about love.”
“Yes, but why rush?  Why not wait until you were older?”
“What changes when you get older?  Older people have failed relationships too.”

“I know, but it would have given the two of you time to know each other better.”
“Mom, I’ve known him all my life.  We’ve grown up together.  I know everything there is to know about Terrance.  I know way more about him than you knew about Notzo when you married,” Lexus says.  She knows that adding that last part is risky, but she’s desperate for her mother to see her point.
Lexus is afraid that she’s said too much, but is surprised at Mercedes’ response. “You’re right,” she says.
“I guess it’s so hard to see you growing up.  And I would have loved for us to have planned a big wedding together,” Mercedes says with a touch of sadness.

“I know mom.  I’m sorry.”
Terrance prepares dinner, praying that everything is going well between Lexus and her mother.
“Don’t think I don’t know that you’ve ignored my question.  Are you pregnant?” Mercedes asks once again.
“I think I am mom, but I promise that I wasn’t when we got married.  I mean… we didn’t get married because we weren’t careful or anything.”
“Ok, ok,” Mercedes says. “So what does this mean for your dream of becoming a surgeon?”
“It’s still my dream.  I just started my first day at an entry level position at the hospital.”

“Good!”  Mercedes says with a smile.
Suddenly Mercedes becomes emotional.  “I’m going to be a grandmother.  My baby is having a baby!”
“We don’t know for sure yet mom!”  Lexus says amused.
“Ok, so where’s this son-in-law whose knocked my baby up already?” Mercedes says heading toward the house. Lexus cannot tell whether her mom is joking or being serious, but she’s concerned that her mom is going to confront Terrance.

Sims 3 The Price-Bull Family (part 31)

Lexus gathers her nerve and rings the doorbell.  She can hear her mother’s laughing voice right before Mercedes answers the door.
Lexus follows her mother inside.  She greets Notzo quickly  and turns her attention to her mother.
Mercedes and Notzo have company, which makes Lexus uncomfortable.  It’s bad enough telling her mom that she’s married, but to do it in front of another set of ears is twice as bad. “So how’s life in the bayou?” Mercedes asks.
“Um…it’s OK…lonely and sometimes scary,” Lexus answers with half truths.

“Yes, that‘s how I felt when I first moved in here by myself.”
“So what is it you want to talk to me about?” Mercedes says giving Lexus her full attention.

This makes Lexus even more uncomfortable.  It would be easier if her mother was busy, only half listening. “Um…” she begins.
“Well…Um, somebody broke into my house.”

Mercedes’ expression quickly changes from attentiveness to concern.  “My God Lex, what happened?”
“Nothing really, but I was too scared to stay there, so I moved in with Terrance.”  Mercedes’ face now morphs to anger.  “We’re married now,” Lexus blurts out before Mercedes gets a chance to respond.
Mercedes’ hands snap to her hips and her face is completely distorted in a combination of disappointment and fury.  “When did this happen?”
“Wait mom.  Before you get mad –”

“Too late,” Mercedes interrupts.
“Just hear me out mom,” Lexus pleads.

“No!  What is there to hear?  You come to me talking about being married… I didn’t even know you were thinking about marriage.  And what happened with the house Notzo and I worked so hard to purchase for you?”
“Mom-”

“Goodbye Lexus!”  Mercedes says turning her back and walking away.
Lexus knew her mother would be angry, but she thought she’d at least listen to her, not turn her back and walk away.
“Mom…please-” Lexus begins again with tears in her eyes.

“This will always be your home so I won’t ask you to leave, but I’m done with this conversation,” Mercedes says finalizing her side of the discussion.
While Lexus leaves her mother’s home, Terrance leaves work just as the bistro begins its busiest shift.
Lexus is in her car with tears streaming down her face, trying to calm herself before she arrives home.
Terrance returns to an empty house.  “I hope everything is going well for Lexus”, he says out loud remembering that Lexus went to see her mother.
Lexus wants to get her emotions under control before seeing Terrance, so she stops by the local diner for a slice of cheesecake. Outside she runs into a hospital employee, Molly Coddle.  Lexus strikes up a conversation with her and finds out that Molly so happens to be  the supervisor for the job she applied for.  “I remember your application,” Molly says, “You can start tomorrow!”
At home Terrance begins preparing a salad for dinner.
Lexus’ news about getting the job helps to put her in a better mood. She returns home.
“How did it go?”  Terrance asks at dinner between mouthfuls of salad.

“Well…my mom’s not speaking to me now.”
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there with you.”

“It’s OK.  It’s not like it would have made a difference,” Lexus says in a tone sprinkled with attitude.
Again, Terrance feels bad that his actions have caused a riff between Lexus and her mother.  He knows that Mercedes means the world to Lexus.  He hates to be the cause of any problems between them.
In bed that night, Terrance decides to apologize to Lexus.
“I’m sorry for causing a problem between you and your mother.”
“Why are you apologizing?  It’s not your fault that my mother feels the need to have her hand in everything I do.”
“Yeah, but we should have had a proper wedding…with family surrounding us.”

“Our wedding was perfect for us.  That’s all that counts,” Lexus counters.
“Yeah, it was perfect,” Terrance reflects.

“Of course it was.  She’ll get over it.  Besides that, she practically did the same thing when she married Notzo.”
“So you’re not upset with me?”  Terrance asks hopefully.

“Of course not beautiful, silly man,” Lexus answers seductively.
Then she proceeds to prove it to him.
That night, Lexus finds it hard to sleep.
Her eyes remain wide open throughout the night.  How can she make her mom listen to her?  Will her mother ever forgive her?
She stares at her husband next to her. How can something so hurtful be the result of a love as beautiful as theirs?
As if he can sense her eyes staring at him, Terrance turns to her in his sleep.
She flips over in bed and automatically, Terrance places his arm around her waist.  Only then does peace fill Lexus’ mind. She closes her eyes and sleep quickly finds her.
