Sims 3 The Wards (part 39)

Zawadi wakes up in a gloomy mood, although today is her birthday.
It should be a happy day, but Zawadi wonders how to be happy on the day her father probably dreaded…the day of her birth.
She actually looks forward to school today.  She cannot wait to get out of the house, away from her father.
Zawadi walks to the bus, wishing she could disappear forever.
Sephora wakes up in a cheerful mood.  Today is her baby’s birthday.  She and Miles have planned a surprise party for her.  Her first goal is to make her garden look great for the party.
Miles takes a few moments to practice on his keyboard.
With everything planned and time to spare, Sephora spends a few moments on her latest sculpture.
Miles takes a look at their new grill and picnic table; purchased especially for this day.
Sephora prepares tofu dogs just before Zawadi gets home from school and her party guests arrive.
Zawadi walks into an empty house.  She’s not sure what she expected, but she definitely did not expect to be alone on her birthday.
Sephora is outside grilling the tofu dogs and Miles is on the phone inviting last minute guests.
Zawadi follows the sound of music outside and is surprised to see  birthday balloons and both of her parents.
Forgetting to be in a bad mood, she changes into her swimsuit to play with the new water slide that her parents purchased for her party.
Felicia Urban, Zawadi’s classmate arrives already clad in her swimwear.  Together they head straight for the water slide.
Zawadi runs to be the first on her new slide.
With a running start, she goes head first down the slide.
Just as she reaches the end, her guests Alfredo Palmer and Mitchell Hoffman arrive to join in the fun.
Sephora finishes preparing the tofu dogs before changing into her swimsuit.
Miles changes into his swimsuit; waiting for an opportunity to try out the waterslide.
“Are you going to eat?” Sephora asks him.

“Not right now.  That slide is calling my name!” He says with a child like enthusiasm.
Miles joins the party guests; waiting for a turn to try out the slide.
Zawadi is amused that her dad wants to play on the slide.  She temporarily forgets what she overheard.
After a few turns down the slide, the guests begin to get hungry.  Everyone slowly begins migrating toward the tofu dogs.
With the children distracted by the tofu dogs, Miles grabs an opportunity to take his turn at the slide.  He is not disappointed.
The tofu dogs disappear quickly as everyone grabs a serving and finds a spot to sit and eat.
Zawadi goes inside and eats at the table with her dad.  She really wants to be mad at him, but she’s finding it hard, because she’s having such a great time at her party.
As the guests finish up their meal, Sephora begins cleaning up the dirty dishes to clear up space for the birthday cake.
Zawadi’s eyes light up as she watches her flickering candles.  Everyone cheers as she blows them out.

Sims 3 The Wards (part 38)

“I just thought that maybe –” Sephora begins before Miles walks away.

He does not get two feet before he stops.
Zawadi doesn’t hear another word.  She turns and runs, afraid to hear any more about her father disliking children.  I’m a child! She screams silently in her mind.
Not knowing where to run, Zawadi decides that going back into the house would be the best thing to do.  She doesn’t want her parents to know that she overheard them.
Zawadi finally stops running when she gets to her room; the same thoughts running through her mind over and over.
She walks slowly to her bed.  Right now sleep is the only escape for the pain she’s feeling.
My daddy works so much, because he doesn’t love me, she repeats silently one last time; afraid of the way those words would taste on her tongue if she were to say them out loud.
One last tear escapes before she lays her head down on her pillow and falls asleep.
Outside, Sephora and Miles continue their conversation.

Miles turns back to Sephora, “I love you and Zawadi more than anything.  I would do anything for either one of you, but I just don’t know if having another child, given our financial situation, is the answer.”
“Yeah, I know Miles.  And you’re right, it probably wouldn’t be the best thing right now.”
“What I can do is cut down on some of my playing at the park for a while, on the weekends anyway.  I’ll try to be at home as much as possible.”

“I’m sure that Zawadi would love that,” Sephora responds.
Sephora sits down on the grass and Miles follows suit.  “You are even more beautiful in the moonlight,” Miles says glancing over at Sephora.
Sephora responds by placing her hand closer to Miles’ and he grabs it.  “Before we had Zawadi, I never thought I could love a child so much.  You and Zawadi are my world.  That’s why I work so hard.  I want you two to have the best…see the world.”
Sephora leans back and looks up at the stars, before responding,  “I have my world right here with you and Zawadi in the cozy home we’ve made.  If I never get to see any other place in the world, I’d be content.”
“Yeah, but you have to admit that seeing Egypt would be incredible.”

Sephora smiles. “That’s true,” she admits.
Miles and Sephora finally enter the house. They sit at the table, Miles eating leftovers and Sephora eating ice cream, both giggling and chatting like teenagers.
Afterward, they head toward the bedroom, but Miles makes a detour to Zawadi’s room.  He stares down at sleeping Zawadi with love and pride. “I love you so much little girl,” he whispers before turning out her light and leaving the room.  Zawadi sleeps on.

Sims 3 The Wards (part 37)

Zawadi, sure that her mother has not made it home yet, decides to skip her homework and watch TV instead.
Sephora has in fact made it home, but she is in her garden tending her vegetables.
The house is quiet and before she knows it, Zawadi is asleep once again.
Miles arrives home from the office party where he played a pretty good set.  He hears Sephora out in her garden. He walks around to the side of the house to join her.
“I’m sorry that I cut you short the other morning.  You were telling me that you’re concerned about Zawadi,” Miles begins.

“Yeah, she’s been on my mind a lot lately.  Especially after her teacher sent a note home saying that she’s distracted at school.”
“What do you think is going on with her?” Miles asks concerned that Zawadi is getting notes home from school.

“Well, when I asked her, she only wanted to know where you were.”
Sephora continues, “I didn’t know how to approach you with this.  We both know that you have to work.”
“I really don’t know what else I can do.  Like you said, I have to work and playing in the park before work helps to keep our heads above water.”
Zawadi slowly wakes up from her nap.
She stretches and yawns her drowsiness away.
It takes her a few moments to realize that she is alone in the house.  “Where’s mommy?”  She asks out loud.
“Well…Miles…I believe that part of the problem is that she is…an only child,” Sephora says hesitating between the words.
Miles doesn’t respond so Sephora continues, “I’m concerned that she spends so much time alone.  She needs someone to play with.”
Sephora’s words instantly make Miles uncomfortable.  “Are you implying that we should try for another baby?”  Mile’s voice is slightly agitated, even though he is trying hard to keep his cool.
Zawadi walks outside to see if her mother’s bike is in the bike rack.  She is excited to see not only her mother’s, but her father’s bike.  As she walks further out the door, she can hear their voices coming from the garden.
“But what if it is for Zawadi’s good?  I know what it’s like to be an only child,” Sephora says as Zawadi peeks around the corner.
Sephora continues, “We have to think about our daughter and put our own feelings aside.”
“I do that everyday Sephora!  You know I never liked or wanted children!”
Zawadi inhales and as she hears her fathers words.  Daddy never wanted children? Tears sting her eyes as the words sink in.
Is that why he’s never around?  He does not want me? Those two questions run through Zawadi’s mind as the tears begin to flow.
