To My Family Moments Readers...

Thank you all for checking the site from time to time, although I'm not updating regularly.  I've received emails from a few of you, asking when I'll be updating particular families on this blog.  Please know that I always try to accommodate your requests, but lately, I've been having a very hard time getting back into these stories.  I'm not saying that I never will...I'm just having a hard time right now.  I think I've just been away from them a little too long or I just have too many other projects that I'm working on.

Speaking of other projects, I do have two on-going families that I update quite often on my Sims 3 Tumblr page.  There I've been regularly posting for the next generation of Athena Sparks' family as well as my new Tumblr exclusive Maxwell family (3rd Generation).  You can check them out here: http://mysimsloveaffair.tumblr.com/

I am also back to updating my story exclusive blog, http://storiesbyd2m.blogspot.com/.  There I am in the process of starting the 2nd part of my very first story on the blog, Metallic Heart.  While part 1 focused on Ardis Bot's attempt to unite the humans and bots of Lunar Lakes... Metallic Heart II follows the life of Ardis' adopted human daughter, Leah.

Not a fan of Sci-Fi or more into supernatural stories, then check out Moonlight Visions.  Like medieval stories, then there's my Tales of the Middle Ages story.  Whatever you decide to do, just know that I appreciate you for checking out my blog and I hope you find something that you like on one of my other blogs...at least until I get back to updating my Family Moments stories.  Thanks again!

Thank You Readers...

...for continuing to check out this blog.  I just wanted to let you all know that I appreciate you for visiting and checking out my Sims 3 families.  A lot of my families have not been updated for a while.  I plan on eventually getting back to updating all of the stories found on this blog.  But for now, I am working on a different Sim stories on my other blog - Sims 3 Stories by Diego2Memphis.  So far, I have two completed stories there, Metallic Heart and Moonlight Visions.  Unlike the stories on this blog, those stories have a definite plot and an end.  The stories on this blog are on-going and multi-generational until I decide to stop playing the families.

Like I said, I will eventually get back to these stories, but in the meantime, please feel free to check out Metallic Heart, Moonlight Visions, or my completed Sims Medieval story called, Tales of the Middle Ages.

I am also grateful that many of you are following this blog through Google Connect.  I hope that you will all consider following my other blogs in the same way.

Thank you so much,
D2M

Athena & Wendell's Story Continues!

After taking a long break from Athena & Wendell's story, I decided to begin playing and updating their story once again.  The original story begins with Athena and her search for love as a middle aged, overly shy writer; too afraid to approach the man of her dreams.  She eventually finds love in the most unexpected place.  You can catch up on her story here: Athena Sparks

After reviewing her story, I liked where it ended and felt that it was pretty complete.  However, some of my readers wanted to know more about what happened after the marriage.  Because I'm so dedicated to my readers, I wanted to continue their story, but in a less formal manner.  I decided that I would post new pictures of their lives together on Tumblr.  All screenshots will be captioned by Athena herself.  This continuation of their story will be in less of a cohesive story and more of a "dear diary" type of set-up.  Thanks for reading.  Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

I had full intentions on doing a New Year’s photo shoot with some of my Sims as well as post new story updates and pics,  but hubby treated me to a “alone time”, spa treatment day…so I’ve been away all day.
Instead, I give you a preview of an upcoming update to the Hamilton/Boyd of Bridgeport story.  This is Destiny Hamilton and Tom Wordy in his music video where Destiny plays a “futuristic” model.  I look forward to posting the story update and the rest of the pics sometime in the New Year!
I wish you all a happy and safe 2012!

Naming Your Sims

You just spent a ton of time creating the perfect Sim... or your two favorite Sims just became parents for the first time.  Now you have to name that perfect Sim or Sim baby.  Where do you turn?  Of course there are a ton of baby naming websites that you can turn to, but I believe it is a lot easier to have a nice list right next to you while you are playing your Sims, Sims 2 or Sims 3 game.

Well, I just compiled 3 lists of possible sim names. The lists include over 1200 of the most popular male names, 2000 popular female names and over 1000 popular surnames (last names).  You are sure to find the perfect name within these lists.

Feel free to download and print or just bookmark the links for future reference!  The lists are in pdf format.  I hope these help!

Generations is here!

I received my Sims 3 Generations game yesterday, so I've been busy playing and updating a couple of my families.  The picture to the left is a preview of the next parts to the Ward family. This picture is of Sephora Ward reading a bedtime story to her daughter Zawadi Ward.  Isn't it cute? I love the new "read a bedtime story" interaction!  Oh and check out Zawadi's pigtails, courtesy of Generations (I'm loving this expansion). Anyway, I will be back to updating as soon as I get the new parts to the Ward family story written.  Please check back!  In the meantime, you can check out preview pictures each day by following  My Sims 3 Photos Tumblr page.

Thanks for Reading!

Thanks for taking the time to read my Family Moments stories!  I'll be taking a short break, at least until the Sims 3 Generations expansion pack comes out at the end of the month (I've preordered - yay).  In the meantime, be sure to check out some of my other sim family stories:

The Deans - The Pressure to Achieve
The Wards - A Story of True Love

Price & Pratt Family Updates...coming soon!

I just wanted to post a quick message for those looking for new Price & Pratt family updates.  I have five new parts written for the Price family of Twinbrook (very exciting updates!) and a few parts completed for the Pratt family of Sunset Valley.  I'm just behind on posting, so bear with me (editing your own writing is tough).  I appreciate your patience as I try to finish editing and posting!  Thanks for reading!

Sims 3 Creating a Family Tree

I've been asked to give instruction on the process of creating a family tree for Sims 3 families.  My family trees are created using Microsoft Office Publisher 2003.  I hope this tutorial is clear & helpful! Please note, that I do not go into every detail of using Publisher.  This tutorial is best for those who are at least minimally familiar with Publisher.

Step 1 - Make sure to have a good picture of your Sims.  If you can, take a picture of your Sim while they are in CAS (or you can change their appearance in the mirror and take a picture of them there).  To take a picture of your Sim, just hit the "C" key on your keyboard. The picture will be found in Documents, Electronic Arts, The Sims 3 in the  folder.
Here's a picture of Tania Dean after clicking a mirror & changing her appearance.
If your Sims has a boyfriend/girlfirend or fiance that is not a part of your immediate household, you will have to take an in game picture of them (unless you are using a mod).  Just try to get a clear shot.
Here's an in game picture of Antwain, Tania's boyfriend

Step 2 - Open up the picture in your favorite photo editing program and crop it to your liking:
Here's the same picture of Tania, cropped to eliminate any excess background

Step 3 - Once you have pictures of everyone that you want to include in your family tree, now it's time to create the family tree. I like to use Microsoft Publisher  (Blank Print Document) for this process, but you may be able to use other programs that allow you to easily create boxes and add pictures.  These are the tools in Publisher that you'll need:
This is what the left side of my Publisher program looks like when I open it.  I am using Microsoft Office Publisher 2003.

Here's my completed Ward Family tree:
To create this simple family tree, I used the Text Box tool in Publisher and added the family name:

Next, I added pictures of Miles and Sephora.  To add pictures in Publisher, you go to Insert, choose Picture and choose From File.  Find the pictures that you want to use, size them and place them where you want them to go.  After adding Miles & Sephora's pictures, I added Text Boxes under the picture and added their names:
Now, I want to signify that Miles & Sephora are married.  I add another box to connect the two of them:
Right now the box is covering up their names and doesn't look right.  To remedy that, I right click the newly added box, choose Order, and choose Send to Back.
Now the box is where you want it to be, but there is an ugly black line between Miles & Sephora's name.  To get rid of it, create another box.
Right now the box looks terrible.  Right click the box, choose Format AutoShape and the Format AutoShape box will pop up, like this:

Under Fill, go to Color and choose White.  Under Line, go Color and once again choose White as shown by the red arrows below:
Now the box will be white, but it still does not look right:
Simply right click the box, choose Order, and choose Send Backward. If the box is not completely behind your pictures and name boxes, then right click the pictures and name boxes, choose Order and Bring to Front.  The end result should be this:
You want the white box to be below the pictures & name boxes, but above the ugly black line that you want to hide.
This is a simple family tree.  If your two Sims have a child as Miles & Sephora later did, you add the child by adding a line:

Then add the child's picture and a Text Box for their name:
For more complicated family trees, you can change the colors of each connected line to indicate marriages, boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, engagements and adoptions.  You can also change the lines to dashed lines, under the Format AutoShape box.  I use dashed lines to indicate divorces or breakups.
To change the thickness of your lines or shapes, go to Weight:

Here is one of my more complicated family trees, The Dean Family:

Please note the Key at the side of the family tree.  The key helps your readers understand what the different color lines and dashes mean on your family tree.  I also like to indicate what members are deceased on my family trees.  To create the Key, I use a Text Box.  I then add lines to the Key box, next to the appropriate label.  (See the red arrow below, showing that lines are added to the Key box.)

The nice thing about using Publisher to create your family trees is that they are easily altered to add new family members!  Make sure you save your family tree Publisher file for this purpose!

That's about it. Please leave feedback below to let me know if these instructions are clear and whether or not you were able to follow along.  I will adjust these instructions based on the feedback I get in the comment area.  Thanks!

Here are links to all of my current family trees for your reference:
The Pratt Family of Sunset Valley (This is a very complicated family tree that goes back 5 generations. I did not have good pictures of the earlier generations, so I just used what I had)

The Dean Family of Riverview (Again, I did not have good pictures of the earlier generations, so I had to use what I had - 3 generations)

The Price Family of Twinbrook (Slightly more complicated - 2 generations)

The Ward Family of Barnacle Bay (Simple family tree - 2 generations)

The Hamilton/Boyd Household (Simple family tree - 1 generation)

New Post - Coming Soon!

Thanks for visiting the site.  I must say, I've been a bit frustrated lately because my Sims 3 game has been running painfully slow.  I do have some new parts to the Hamilton/Boyd household completed.  Once they are edited, I'll be adding them to the website.  I also plan on writing new parts for the Dean family.  In the meantime, thanks for bearing with me!
