Miles is awakened by his cell phone. He climbs out of bed with drowsiness still clinging to him.
“Hello,” he answers in a groggy sleep filled voice.
“Miles? Sorry to wake you! This is Patty. I was here at the park where we usually practice, when I saw your daughter. I thought you might have been here somewhere, but when I didn’t see you, I thought I’d give you a call to make sure you knew she was here.”
“Are you sure it’s Zawadi? She should still be here in bed.”
“Yep, I’m sure. She has her mother’s face and your eyes.”
“Yep, I’m sure. She has her mother’s face and your eyes.”
Miles thanks Patty and hangs up. He lets out a loud sigh as he stares out of the window. The joys of fatherhood, he thinks to himself.
Miles slips on his clothes and gets ready to leave and find Zawadi. Sephora hears him moving around the room and wakes up as he leaves the bedroom.
Sephora, not knowing what is going on, walks to the refrigerator to grab breakfast. Zawadi actually slept in for a change, she thinks to herself, assuming that Zawadi is still in bed.
Miles leaves the bathroom and spots Sephora eating breakfast.
“Zawadi is at the park, I’m going to get her,” Miles announces as he walks toward the front door.
“What?” Sephora asks between bites, not sure she heard right.
“What?” Sephora asks between bites, not sure she heard right.
Sure enough, Zawadi is at the park on the swings. After she left the underground mausoleum, she decided that the park was a less scary place to be.
Suddenly Miles appears. Zawadi gives him a big smile, hoping that it will distract him from being angry with her.
She waits expectantly for Miles to yell or be angry, but he doesn’t say anything. He just stands next to the swing and stretches the rest of his fatigue away.
Miles not saying anything is more disturbing to Zawadi than his yelling would have been. She’s not sure what to expect.
Zawadi faces her dad. “I’m sorry daddy,” she says rubbing tears away before they have a chance to fall.
“It’s ok baby,” He says giving her a big hug. “Thanks for admitting that you were wrong.”
“Now are you here to swing or just stand around with tears in your eyes?” Miles says in a light voice.
“Swing!” Zawadi says, jumping back on. Miles gives her a big push.
Zawadi sails into the sky, happy to be getting the attention that she was desperately searching for.
