Sephora is up early with Zawadi. Zawadi is ready for a diaper change and a bottle.
After her bottle, Zawadi is calm. Sephora puts her on a blanket and uses the time to work in her garden.
Zawadi seems to enjoy being outside, but its time for a nap, so in her crib she goes.
Being a new mother is tough on Sephora. The time that used to belong to her now belongs to Zawadi. Sephora is frustrated that she doesn’t get enough time to work in her garden and complete her sculptures.
For now, she does get a moment, but for how long?
Miles on the other hand is free to come and go as he pleases. He wakes up and hops on his bike to play guitar in front of the theater.
Sephora uses her tiny amount of free time to complete her ice sculpture. Her first ice sculpture melted before she had the chance to sell it.
This is not quite what she had in mind when she pictured her finished sculpture. Then again, her mind has been a bit more distracted lately.
Sephora wants to consign this sculpture before it melts. She has to take Zawadi with her, so she is forced to take a taxi.
At the theater, Miles puts his guitar case out for tips and begins to play. However, the lack of traffic in this location equals a lack of tips.
Sephora arrives at the consignment shop in a bad mood because to her, riding in a taxi is a waste of gas and is bad for the environment.
Sephora’s mood only gets worst when she has to hop in the taxi again to go to the grocery store.
Tending to Zawadi is the only thing that improves Sephora’s mood.
Sephora also gets an opportunity to earn money for increasing her sculpting skill. She is all smiles now.
An exhausted Sephora is ready for a nap once she finally gets back home.
Her nap is interrupted by Petunia who decides to stop by for a visit.
Sephora considers ignoring the door bell because she is tired, but gets up and answers the door anyway.
Sephora greets Petunia.
Sephora does not want to be rude, so she does her best to be attentive while Petunia is speaking, but she has a tough time focusing.
Sephora resorts to telling Petunia the truth. “We just had a baby, so I am exhausted. I would love for you to come by at another time for a visit though.”
Petunia thinks this is a great idea, “Maybe I can make a pie and we can chat over brunch.”
Sephora and Petunia make plans to get together at another time. Petunia says goodbye and leaves.
Sephora can practically hear the bed call her name. She notices that Zawadi is not sleeping, so she knows that it is only a matter of time before she begins to cry. “Where is Miles?” She asks herself.
Miles is off work, but he doesn’t rush home. Instead he runs to the bookstore to buy new sheet music.
The quiet/calmness of the bookstore at night is like heaven for Miles…
…while Sephora’s brief taste of heavenly sleep is interrupted by shrill cries.
Sephora can’t help but be annoyed with Miles for not being home to help.
Sephora drags herself over to Zawadi’s crib; practically sleepwalking.
Just as she has finished tending to Zawadi, Miles walks into the room.
“Hey babe! How’s it going?”Miles asks in a cheerful voice that sounds anything but cheerful to Sephora.
“Oh, well my day has been just peachy,” Sephora answers not hiding the sarcasm.
“Why? What’s going on?” Miles asks cluelessly.
“Hmm, well I woke up early this morning to tend to the baby while you slept in. I had to try to fit some work in, after you left extra early to play in the park. I had to take a taxi to try to sell my sculpture before it melted and I’m practically in a coma tending to the baby while waiting for you to get home…
…I’ve had a tough day and I need you to help out more,” Sephora tells him.
Miles had no idea how tough it’s been for Sephora.
“How can I help?” Miles asks.
“Holding the baby, coming home earlier, maybe cooking a meal every once in a while. Any of the above would help,” Sephora answers tartly.
Miles can hear in her voice that Sephora has been over extended with baby duties. He tells her to get some rest. Tomorrow, he will take over.
Sephora is grateful as she climbs back in bed.
